How much does it cost to insure my fishing tackle?
Probably not as much as you think and certainly not as much as many other companies charge. Anglers First Insurance offers 5 Options with differing levels of cover, depending on your requirements, with the annual premium starting at only £79 for 12 months cover!
The Option you select should depend on the value of all your gear as follows:
If the total cost of all your fishing equipment is £2,000 the annual cost will be only £79. However, if it adds up to £4,000 the annual cost will be £99, £8,000, the annual cost will be £199, £12,000 the annual cost would be £299 and up to £16,000 annually £399.
Payment of the annual premium can be made in one payment to Anglers First Insurance or, you can select to pay the premium in 10 monthly instalments to Premium Credit. In this case, Premium Credit will send you an Agreement for your consideration and signature, with details of the monthly cost and, where applicable, their handling charge fee of £5.
All premiums quoted include Insurance Premium Tax.
The insurance provides cover for Angling Equipment being rods, reels, tackle box, bait boat and contents, umbrellas, shelter, camp bed, trolley, clothing and wearing apparel which is the property of and the legal responsibility of the Insured. Any item individually valued at over £300 will need to be declared in writing to us on application and noted on the schedule. Receipts will be required in the event of a claim.
As well as insuring fishing tackle, if you unfortunately have an accident while you are fishing, depending on the Option you select, the following important benefits are included to the limits shown in the policy wording :
- Public Liability Cover
- Personal Accident Cover
Would my equipment be covered while in my vehicle?
Yes while visiting a fishing venue, provided the insured equipment is not visible and is contained in the locked boot or enclosed luggage compartment of your vehicle. If your vehicle does not have an enclosed boot or enclosed luggage compartment, then your equipment must be fully hidden from public view. Your vehicle must also be securely locked and any keys removed from the vehicle and where applicable, any alarm activated. There would be no cover in respect of theft from your vehicle where access has been gained by any method other than violent and forcible entry.
Are there any exclusions to the cover that I should be aware of?
Yes, as with all insurances there are terms and conditions that apply to the cover. It is therefore extremely important that you read the policy wording carefully to ensure you are aware of the exclusions, limits and excesses that apply to the insurance cover. For your information there is a £100 excess in respect of each and every accidental damage or theft claim. There is also a limit of 75% of the total sum insured selected in respect of a claim for the theft of insured equipment from a locked shed.
Any item costing £300 or more must be declared on application or renewal and in the event of a claim, a receipt or proof of ownership must be provided.
Please note there is a limit of £3000 for any one item.
With fishing tackle and equipment costing so much, could you afford to replace your tackle if it was damaged or stolen?
If your answer is NO then do take a moment to look at the Anglers First Insurance – 12 months cover is available for only £79!
Surely my fishing equipment is covered under my household contents insurance?
Unfortunately to their cost many anglers have found that this is not always the case. A number of household policies exclude sports equipment and sports injury cover. It is, therefore, important that you check your policy wording.
What cover do I need?
We offer you the choice of 5 options depending on the value of your fishing equipment. If you’re not sure what level of cover you need the simplest way is to make a list of all your equipment and the price you paid for each item and then select the Option you require to cover the cost of your equipment.

Do I need to inform you if I purchase new equipment?
Yes, you need to retain the receipts and notify us by email of any purchase you make that cost £300 or over. If you have not informed us in writing of any new items of equipment that cost you £300 or more, in the event of their theft, they would not be insured. Please also remember to retain the receipt in respect of your purchases as they will be required in the event of a claim.
What happens if I do not have receipts and I need to make a claim?
In the event of a claim for items priced less than £300, you will be asked to provide receipt(s) in respect of stolen or damaged item(s). If you do not have a receipt(s) you may be able to prove ownership of the item(s) by producing relevant bank or credit card statement(s). We do strongly suggest you take dated photos of your equipment, particularly those items you do not have receipts for.
